JKUAT Holds End of Year Thanksgiving Service

Guest preacher Apostle Paul Ndungu urged the congregants to focus on thanksgiving.

The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) staff and students gathered on December 18, 2024, for end of year thanksgiving service at the university’s assembly hall. This special event brought together staff, students, and various stakeholders to reflect on the year’s blessings and celebrate the goodness of the Lord.

The service, themed “Come and See What the Lord Has Done” based on Psalm 46:8, was presided over by the university chaplain, Dr. John Karihe, who welcomed the congregation with warm, inspiring remarks. The atmosphere was filled with reverence and joy as the JKUAT Christian Union, SDA Choir, and Catholic Choir uplifted the occasion with beautiful hymns and soul-stirring performances.

Notable leaders from the university attended, including the Dean of Students, Prof. John Githiri; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) of Research, Production, and Extension, Prof. Jackson Kwanza; and the DVC of Administration and Finance, Prof. Bernard Ikua.

The highlight of the service was a powerful sermon by Apostle Paul Ndung’u, focused on the importance of thanksgiving. He emphasized that gratitude is not only a core aspect of the Christian faith but also a sacrifice that pleases God.

“Create a culture of showing God how grateful you are. Be thankful every day, even for the air you breathe. Murmuring brings delay, but our God loves a grateful heart,” Apostle Ndung’u said.

He further urged congregants to be diligent and committed in all their undertakings, stressing that their work should reflect the dedication and purpose given to them by God.

Prayers for the university’s welfare, the health of staff and students, family life, and general well-being were offered by Reverends from various churches, symbolizing unity in faith and purpose.

In her remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Victoria Ngumi encouraged the staff to cultivate a spirit of gratitude for the university, which plays a pivotal role in their daily lives.

“Let us continue praying for our great university because this is where we spend most of our days. Let’s also pray for our staff students,” said Prof. Ngumi.

The service underscored the importance of thanksgiving not just as a tradition but as a way of life. It was a spiritually enriching event that reminded the JKUAT community of the power of gratitude and prayer as they look forward to the new year.
