Lilian Mwangi, a lecturer and Head of the Department of Media Technology and Applied Communication (MTAC), in the College of Human Resource Development (COHRED) has been crowned Autism Ambassador 2025.
She received the honor on Saturday, April 12, 2025 during this year’s Mr. and Miss Autism pageant, an annual event held at Sports View Hotel, Kasarani, to mark World Autism Awareness Month.
The event was organized to promote the inclusion of neuro-divergent (cognitive variations) individuals, particularly those on the autism spectrum.
Ms. Mwangi, a mother of three, two of whom are autistic has spent the past eight years passionately advocating for awareness, acceptance, and support for the autism community.
Through her popular social media platform, ‘Diary of an Autism Mum’, she shares real-life experiences, challenges stereotypes, offers practical solutions, and fosters a sense of solidarity among families on similar journeys. Her content highlights both the joys and challenges of raising autistic children, offering valuable insights for other parents and caregivers.
“This title and crown will help amplify my voice in autism advocacy. It’s an opportunity to take the conversation beyond social media and bring it to decision-making tables. I hope to make a meaningful impact, especially in the education sector for neurodivergent individuals,” said Mrs. Mwangi.
Lilian is committed to mental health awareness, recognizing the critical link between autism and emotional well-being. With strong communication and leadership skills and a deeply personal connection to the cause, Lilian is dedicated to fostering a more inclusive and accepting society.
In her new role as Autism Ambassador, she hopes to inject renewed energy into national conversations on inclusive education, support systems, and policy reforms aimed at building a world where autistic individuals and their families can thrive.
