Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has successfully completed its registration with the national e-Government Procurement (e-GP) system, marking a pivotal step in modernizing the university’s procurement processes and ensuring full compliance with national public finance reforms.

The e-GP system, launched by the National Treasury in April 2025 and made mandatory for all public procuring entities, is a centralized digital platform designed to automate the full procurement cycle—from planning and tendering to contract awarding and management. It also integrates with key government systems such as IFMIS and KRA’s iTax to enhance efficiency, reduce fraud, and promote transparency.

As a public university and procuring entity under the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act (PPADA) 2015, JKUAT’s on-boarding to the e-GP platform ensures uninterrupted procurement operations while aligning with presidential directives and constitutional requirements for fair, equitable, and accountable use of public resources.

JKUAT Chairman of Council, Dr. James Micah Onsando, who officially published the University’s procurement plans on the e-GP platform lauded the administration for proactively responding to the regulatory requirements, and making JKUAT compliant.

“This on-boarding underscores JKUAT’s commitment to good governance, operational efficiency, and value for money in utilizing public funds,” said Chairman of Council, Dr. James Micah Onsando.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi said the move is expected to streamline JKUAT’s acquisition of goods, services, and works, foster competitive bidding, and support preferences for disadvantaged groups such as youth, women, and persons with disabilities.

“By embracing digital procurement, we are positioning the institution to achieve greater transparency, faster processes, and cost savings that will ultimately benefit our students, staff, research initiatives, and overall mission in education and innovation,” said Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi.
