JKUAT Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Mathu Ndung’u, has urged student leaders to fully embrace their responsibility in shaping a stable and forward-thinking university environment. He stressed that student leadership not only strengthens the institution’s governance but also plays a crucial part in securing sustainable research funding.

“By projecting an image of consistency and reliability, student leaders help build confidence among external stakeholders, reinforcing the university’s reputation as a hub for academic excellence and innovation,” said Prof. Ndung’u.

The Chancellor was speaking during an engagement forum with outgoing Jomo Kenyatta University Student Association led by the President Fidel Wandiga and Dean of Students, Prof. Fredah Wanzala.

Prof. Ndung’u commended the outgoing officials for their commitment to student leadership and urged them to continue being ambassadors of the university beyond their tenure.

The Chancellor also highlighted the importance of continuous engagement between student leaders and the university administration to foster mutual understanding and promote initiatives that benefit the entire student body. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting student leadership and providing an enabling environment for innovation, research, and personal growth.

As the JKUSA officials prepare to hand over leadership to their successors, Prof. Ndung’u encouraged them to uphold the values of integrity, responsibility, and service, both within and beyond the university. He expressed confidence that their experiences in student leadership would serve as a strong foundation for their future endeavors.
