Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is set to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Welwitchia University from Namibia as it seeks to grow and diversify its programmes to the areas of engineering, ICT and health.
This collaboration, drawing from the combined strength of both institutions, will facilitate the development of joint degree programs in the fields of health, engineering, ICT as well as agriculture, a move expected to afford a unique learning experiences and improved career prospects for graduates.
Speaking during a meeting with the Welwitchia University Management on Thursday 18, June 2024, when they paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, the JKUAT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi said, the partnership will provide researchers with access to state-of-the-art facilities and foster a culture of innovation.
The Vice Chancellor noted that JKUAT has a rich history of mentoring Universities in Namibia and Eritrea, and therefore
welcomed the latest initiative to work closely with Welwitchia University for the mutual benefit the two institutions.
“We will establish exchange programs that enable our faculty and students to experience different academic
environments, broaden their perspectives, and build a global network of peers and mentors,” Prof. Ngumi observed.
The Vice Chancellor further noted that Welwitchia University, known for nurturing future leaders in various disciplines, aligns perfectly with JKUAT’s vision of advancing knowledge and transforming lives through cutting-edge education and research.
The partnership with Welwitchia University, Prof. Ngumi noted, represents a significant step forward for JKUAT as we continue to pursue our mission of excellence in education, research, and community service.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor, Welwitchia University, Prof. Marius Hedimbi, thanked the JKUAT management for welcoming them, stating that “partnership on technology-driven projects will contribute to sustainable development and economic growth in the region. This collaboration will pave the way for innovative solutions to some of the most pressing issues of our time.”
Prof. Hedimbi explained that “by combining our expertise and resources, we will embark on collaborative research projects aimed at addressing critical global challenges. This initiative will not only enhance our research capabilities but also foster a spirit of innovation and discovery.”
He observed that the collaboration will see the development of joint academic programs, providing students with unique educational opportunities that leverage the strengths of both institutions, as well as offering a rich, diverse learning experience that enhance the global competitiveness of the graduates.
