JKUAT and Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University Advance Partnership on Research and Innovation – Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University (HSWT) of Applied Sciences, held a workshop on May 8, 2026, aimed at strengthening collaboration in research, innovation, and academic exchange between the two institutions.

During the meeting, representatives from both universities explored areas of mutual interest and opportunities for joint programmes, capacity building, and knowledge and staff exchange.

Both institutions are leveraging wealth of expertise in applied sciences, research, and innovation, providing a strong foundation for strategic partnerships that can drive sustainable development and global academic engagement.

Speaking during the meeting, the Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity at HWST, Prof. Carsten Lorz, said the institution is keen to partner with JKUAT to expand collaboration in research, student and staff exchange programmes, and innovation-driven initiatives.

Prof. Lorz acknowledged JKUAT as a strategic partner for networking and academic collaboration within the African continent, citing the university’s strong reputation in research, technology, and innovation.

He further noted that Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences is keen to expand its international reach and strengthen partnerships that promote knowledge exchange, joint research and innovation to address global challenges.

Acting. Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs at JKUAT, Prof. George Thiong’o, noted the university’s commitment to internationalization through strategic global partnerships aimed at enhancing academic excellence, research collaboration, and cross-cultural exchange. He also reiterated the University’s ambition of becoming a research intensive institution.

He further said, once actualized, “the collaboration will strengthen JKUAT’s global engagement footprint, while creating more opportunities for joint research, staff and student mobility, and innovation-driven capacity building”.

The visit by Prof. Lorz was a follow-up to his previous engagement with the university management held on March 18, 2025, which laid the groundwork for the ongoing discussions on enhanced institutional collaboration.

Ongoing discussions between the two institutions will culminate in a partnership to be formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and translated into concrete programmes and initiatives that advance research, innovation and academic exchange.
