JKUAT and University of Buffalo Explore Strategic Partnership – Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SOBE) has opened discussions with the University of Buffalo School of Management (UB) to establish a multifaceted collaboration aimed at boosting student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and entrepreneurship development starting June 30, 2025.

The proposed partnership concentrates on four key areas: student leadership development through a virtual certificate programme, faculty and student exchanges to foster cross-cultural learning, joint research and entrepreneurship initiatives to utilise JKUAT’s expertise in business innovation, and career readiness programmes inspired by UB’s successful Career Resource Centre.

These strategic areas aim to create immediate impact while building a foundation for long-term institutional relationships.

Representing the Principal, College of Human Resource Development (COHRED), Prof. Florence Memba (Dean, SOBE), expressed her gratitude to Prof Dorothy Siaw-Asamoah for choosing JKUAT as an institutional partner.

Prof. Memba noted that as institutions, they have to start from somewhere as they look forward to formalize their partnership initiatives.

“We should start with ‘low-hanging fruit’, like the leadership programme, while progressing towards a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Afterwards, we will implement the student exchanges and joint research, then expand to curriculum harmonisation and institutional partnerships,” explained Prof. Memba.

Prof. Dorothy Siaw-Asamoah from the University of Buffalo emphasised the importance of technology and shared efforts in maintaining collaboration.

“Virtual workshops, joint webinars, and remote mentorship can accelerate engagement before physical exchanges start. We should also remain committed and intentional to see the success of this envisioned collaboration,” stated Prof. Dorothy Siaw-Asamoah.

The two institutions reaffirmed their joint commitment to equitable, mutually beneficial cooperation, whereby both universities will have an opportunity to learn from each other’s strengths.
