The Institute of Energy and Environmental technology was established in 1990 to carry out research and training in energy and environmental technologies. The establishment of the Institute arose from the felt need for rational management of energy, natural resources and the environment at large.

In the recent past, environmental conditions in Kenya have continued to deteriorate as a result of several causes among them principally, being lack of appropriate technologies in agricultural, energy and manufacturing processes.

It is for this reason that the Institute seeks to address environmental and energy issues while maintaining a sound and safe working environment. So far the institute forges both local and global linkages as it develops into a centre of excellence in Energy, Environmental and Health & Safety technologies.
