The School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, convened a career fair dubbed, “The Future of Work; Career Path Series” for their students in an effort to equip them with skills that would enable them lead productive lives and contribute positively towards the global community.
The career fair, graced by officials from Zalego Academy on Friday, October 29, 2021, aimed at fostering an enabling breeding ground to produce the best of the best software engineers that will innovate and aspire to be self-employed. The move, it is anticipated, will help reduce the rate of unemployment and poverty in East and Central Africa region.
To achieve this, Zalego Academy with its vast experience in the job market decided to equip university students with the necessary tools to help them navigate the impending technology wave, now, and in the future.
Speaking during the event, the Head of University Relations from Zalego Academy, Mr. Victor Muthama said their work in Kenya and Africa is focused on imparting knowledge and skills to the young and vibrant workforce in order to meet the current, and future technology industry talent demand.
“Strong partnerships with key industries position us to provide access to attachment and internships opportunities for experience as well as job placement openings to allow graduates to start their journey in the technology world,” he explained. “We are a preferred talent recruitment partner for more than 15 organizations with varied companies expressing their interest to join this network,” he added.
He encouraged the students to start fine-tuning their skills in preparation for higher learning in the academy where they would acquire technical and analytical thinking knowledge.
Mr. Muthama promised to provide the students with appropriate training and mentorship to make sure they achieved the best results. He further noted that the company would also connect the students with a wide network of alumni and industry experts to help them grow in their field and build a portfolio that can highlight their acquired skills.
Zalego Academy is a Capacity Building Centre with the main focus on creating placement opportunities for university graduates and also helps them to become competent and confident Information Communication and Technology (ICT) users.
