In an effort to solidify her leadership in agricultural training, JKUAT has embarked on the process of upgrading the Faculty of Agriculture into the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. This has been informed by the changing demands in training agricultural sciences.
To help this transition, the JKUAT Senate approved the establishment of three Schools namely; School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, School of Food and Nutrition Sciences and the School of Natural Resources and Animal Sciences.
For a smooth progression, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mabel Imbuga, announced the appointments of Prof. David Mburu as the Coordinator of Deans in the new College. Prof. Mburu will be deputised by Prof. Losenge Turoop. The two will serve as they wait for the appointment of the College Principal.
Prof. Imbuga also announced the appointment of Prof. Elijah Ateka, Prof. Daniel Sila and Dr. Francis Njonge as the Deans of the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, School of Food and Nutrition Sciences and School of Natural Resources and Animal Sciences respectively.
The Faculty of Agriculture is as old as the University having been started when the University, then a Middle Level College was established. The establishment of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources gives JKUAT new impetus in training, research and innovation in agriculture and is already playing a significant role in supporting the government’s implementation of the Food Security and Nutrition, one of the pillars of the Big Four Agenda.
