Forty-six participants from various professional sectors successfully completed a four-week Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and Environmental Audit (ESIA/EA) short course offered by JKUAT’s Institute of Energy and Environmental Technology (IEET) on 8 April 2025.

The training was instrumental in equipping participants with critical skills and knowledge to assess and audit projects in ways that protect both society and the environment. The course also aimed to promote sustainable project evaluation, foster professional growth, and broaden participants’ perspectives.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, IEET Director, Prof. Joseph Kamau, encouraged participants to apply the skills they had gained to benefit their communities. He emphasized the significance of the training, noting that its true impact would be seen when participants used their expertise to assist in local project assessments.

“With the skills and knowledge, you have acquired during this training, you are now in a position to support your communities by helping address issues and foster societal development,” said Prof. Kamau.

Ms. Purity Muthoni, IEET Coordinator, also addressed the participants, expressing gratitude for their commitment throughout the program.

“I would like to thank all of you for your participation and dedication over the past four weeks. Your commitment to creating time for this course is commendable, and I am confident you will continue to make us proud as ambassadors of IEET,” said Ms. Muthoni.

Adan Julio, speaking on behalf of the participants, thanked IEET for offering a highly impactful program.

“This course has made me more aware and better prepared to apply what I have learned to real-world planning. I encourage anyone interested in environmental assessment to enroll it’s a practical, eye-opening experience and a great opportunity to network with professionals from various fields,” said Mr. Julio.
