Engineer Kabubo Elected Dean SCEGE

Eng. Charles Kabubo is the new Dean School of Civil, Environmental, and Geomatics Engineering following a closely contested Election held on November 17, 2022.

Dr. Kabubo, a senior lecturer from the department of Civil Engineering won the elections by six votes against his strong challenger, Dr. Thomas Ngigi from Geomatics Engineering Department.

In his acceptance speech, Eng. Kabubo expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead a regionally popular School that is renowned for producing competent engineers who have effectively handled construction projects both locally and internationally, making JKUAT the preferred choice for study in engineering courses.

His sentiments were echoed by Dr. Aggrey Wanyama, the Acting Registrar Academic Affairs, who concurred that the highest numbers of self-sponsored students were enrolled in Civil and Geospatial Engineering, an impressive record that Dr. Wanyama believes will continue under Eng. Kabubo’s leadership.

Eng. Kabubo will be instrumental at the helm of the School which partly focuses on his research interests which include the use of sustainable eco-friendly materials and technologies, project management, and contracts administration.

This is based on his experience as the Director of the Sustainable Materials Research & Technology Centre (SMARTEC) from 2013 to date.

He is a Construction Engineering and Management expert with a Ph.D. and a Masters’ degree in Construction Management from JKUAT and Loughborough University, respectively. His Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree is from the University of Nairobi.

Kabubo who is a registered engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) is actively involved in the Engineering industry through his membership in various professional bodies which include the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Institution of Engineers of Kenya, and the Project Managers of Kenya. He is also a distinguished fellow of the Institute of Construction.

The new dean will assume office on November 23, 2022, and takes over from Eng. Jeremiah Kiptala who served for two years.
