fundamental part of our mission. Entrepreneurship is about resilience, creativity and courage. Courage to look at the world differently and believe that you can make a difference.

“The EDGE Program is more than just a name, it’s a commitment. A commitment to engage, develop and grow the potential that lies in each of us,” said Prof. Ngumi.

“The world is constantly evolving, with technological advancements, social change and economic shifts redefining what it means to succeed. In such an environment, the role of a university is not limited to imparting knowledge, it’s about creating opportunities, inspiring innovation, and empowering students to turn challenges into opportunities, “the Vice Chancellor added.

In her welcoming remarks, Dean of students, Prof. Fredah Wanzala said the program reflects the university’s commitment to supporting students’ transition from academic life to the professional world.

Engage invites students to connect with industry experts, peers, and mentors; Develop equips students with vital technical and interpersonal skills; Grow encourages students to unlock their potential and find career paths that align with their strengths; and Entrepreneurship inspires innovative thinking and entrepreneurial mindsets,” she said, adding that the Office of The Dean of Students is committed to student development.

Last year, the Office of the Dean of Students conducted a survey on clubs and societies. “Our aim was to understand how we can best support the operations and growth of these organizations, The students voiced a strong desire for activities such as mentorship programs, career fairs, charitable work, outreach programs, networking events, and youth empowerment initiatives. This feedback has been invaluable in shaping the EDGE program, ensuring it resonates with the actual needs and aspirations of our students,” said Prof. Wanzala.

The guest speaker and renowned motivational speaker Mr. Robert Burale shared inspiring remarks with students, emphasizing the importance of resilience and vision in entrepreneurship.

He encouraged students to see challenges as opportunities for growth and advised them to remain disciplined and focused on their goals. Mr. Burale highlighted the role of self-confidence and continuous learning as essential traits for those venturing into business, urging students to leverage their unique ideas to make an impact in their communities and beyond.

His message resonated well with the EDGE programme’s goals, which aim to equip students with practical business skills, mentorship, and networking opportunities, fostering a supportive environment where young entrepreneurs can thrive.

This EDGE initiative reflects JKUAT’s commitment to nurturing future business leaders and innovators, aligning education with market needs to bolster Kenya’s economic growth.

The program launch also featured exhibitions from the industry experts that introduced students to the entrepreneurial ecosystem and highlighted the skills necessary for successful business startups.

EDGE program collaborates with industry leaders and successful entrepreneurs, allowing students to gain insights, networking with potential mentors and investors, fostering a practical learning environment that goes beyond the classroom setting.
