Dr. Onesmus Muvengei Re-elected as Dean, SOMMME

Dr. Muvengei receives his official certification as Dean SOMMME from the Registrar Dr. Aggrey Wanyama.

Dr. Onesmus Mutuku Muvengei has successfully retained his position as Dean of the School of Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Material Engineering (SOMMME) for another two-year term.

He won the election with 46 votes, defeating his opponent, Eng. Dr. Robert Kiplimo, who received 13 votes. The election, which took place on March 14, 2025, was overseen by Dr. Aggrey Wanyama, the Registrar of Academic Affairs.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Muvengei expressed his commitment to fostering an environment where every staff member and student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

He also announced plans for capacity-building events aimed at enhancing staff development, promoting a stronger sense of community, and recognizing their collective achievements.

Dr. Muvengei outlined his vision for the future of the school, which includes strengthening school – industry partnerships, creating more opportunities for student attachments, internships, and joint projects, as well as expanding research funding.

He also emphasized the importance of supporting interdisciplinary research and establishing strong research groups focused on impactful solutions. Strengthening alumni connections was another priority he highlighted.

The dean elect emphasized on importance of teamwork stating, “Great discoveries happen through collaboration. This is our shared journey, and I am committed to working with each one of you to turn these goals into reality. Let us move forward together, with unity, purpose, and determination.”

Dr. Muvengei also took the opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the voting process and expressed his appreciation for his worthy opponent, Dr. Kiplimo.

Dr. Kiplimo graciously conceded defeat and congratulated Dr. Muvengei on his victory, expressing his eagerness to work alongside him for the betterment of the school.
