
Dr. Kenneth Omondi Ogila is the new dean of the School of Biological Sciences, following an unopposed election. A former Chair of the Department of Zoology (2016–2020), Dr. Ogila will serve a two-year term, bringing his experience and leadership to the role.
The election, held on February 20, 2025, marked a smooth transition as the outgoing dean, Dr. Peter Mwangi, officially handed over the mantle to Dr. Ogila.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Ogila expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and acknowledged the support of his colleagues. He revealed that his aspiration to lead the school was inspired by his close working relationships with past deans, whom he admired and sought to emulate.
“This is a dream fulfilled. Having worked closely with my predecessors, I have always admired their leadership. Today, I am honored to step into this role. Our school has always been a beacon of democracy and stability, and I intend to uphold these values,” said Dr. Ogila.
Dr. Ogila pledged to maintain the open-door policy embraced by his predecessor, ensuring that both staff and students feel heard and valued. He also emphasized his commitment to implementing compliant programs, strengthening collaborations and partnerships, and improving postgraduate completion rates.
“I recognize that leadership is a continuous learning process, and I will seek guidance from the outgoing dean to ensure a smooth transition. My vision is to align our programs with Competency-Based Curriculum requirements, foster collaborations that benefit both students and faculty, and provide enhanced support for post-graduate students to improve completion rates,” said Dr. Ogila.
The outgoing dean Dr. Mwangi expressed his hearty congratulations to Dr.Ogila emphasizing that the role carries great responsibility and requires dedication.
Reflecting on his tenure, Dr. Mwangi noted that serving as dean provided him with invaluable insight into the institution’s operations. He expressed gratitude for the support he received and pledged to aid a smooth transition to Dr. Ogila.
“This position offers a unique opportunity to understand the inner workings of the institution. I am grateful for the support I have received and will continue to assist the incoming dean where needed. The mantle has been passed, and great expectations lie ahead,” said Dr. Mwangi.
