The Director of Sports at JKUAT, Dr. Peter Waweru Kamaku, has won Best Referee of the Year Award at the 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League Awards.

In a colorful ceremony held Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, Dr. Kamaku who is also an accredited FIFA referee, was presented with the award after a calendar year in which he officiated many high profile matches, most recently the 1-1 Mashemeji derby draw between Gor Mahia and AFC leopards.

The award comes against the backdrop of a spectacular year for the JKUAT Pure and Applied Mathematics don, where he recently made history becoming Kenya’s first Centre Referee to officiate a match at the Africa Cup of Nations.

In his recap of the 2020/2021 achievements, Dr. Kamaku said he was motivated by his personal goal to use his God-Given talent as a platform to motivate the youth especially those in the slums to explore their talents.

He added that plans were underway to concretize his plans to nurture young talents who may be interested in following in his footsteps.

“My plan is to start a referee academy to nurture young talents and give back to the community,” said Dr. Kamaku.

During the award ceremony, Kariobangi Sharks striker Erick Kapaito was crowned the Most Valued Player of the FKF Premier League 2020/21 season.
