Information for First Year Students – 2020

The University Council, Management and Staff are pleased to warmly welcome our first year students 2020/2021 academic year to the JKUAT family. Congratulations and welcome to your University of Choice! You worked hard to competitively secure your admission to JKUAT and we look forward to having you on board as you pursue all your academic endeavors.

Due to the prevailing Covid 19 pandemic, we would like to inform you that registration and learning for the first semester will be done online. Below is the information you need to successfully register as a student and access the online learning platform.


The registration process is online and started on 1st September 2020 .

To be considered fully registered for the semester, students are supposed to:

  1. Pay fees into the bank accounts specified in the next section.
  2. Create a student’s account on the students portal. Click here to create your account.
  3. Create a new session under the Session Reporting tab on the portal
  4. Register for Units under the Unit Registration tab.


Important communication from the University to the Students is always done through the students’ JKUAT email. All students are required to activate their emails and regularly check their mails for any communication from their Colleges/Schools/Departments.

To access most resources at the University e.g. online library, discounted bundles etc students will be required to use their JKUAT email accounts.


All students are required to pay their fees into the following bank accounts. DO NOT PAY THROUGH BANK AGENTS.

All Orientation was done online. Orientation video links will be sent to your emails.


During this first semester, all lectures will be done online. The online classes will commence on 8th September 2020.

All students are required to have a laptop/tablet to enable them access the online learning resources.

Taifa Laptops are available for purchase from the University at a cost of 43,000/= The money should be paid into KCB Account Number 1107589045 (Laptop Fee Only). The Laptops will be collected at JKUAT Main Campus, COHES Building 4th Floor after submitting the slip to the Students Finance Office.



For those who would like to change course, the process is online. To apply for change of course, the student is expected to

  • Step 1: Confirm that you are qualified for admission to the course you are interested in.
  • Step 2: Once you have confirmed that you qualify, go to login and go to step 10 and follow the instructions given to apply online for change of course.

To Confirm that you are qualified for admission to the course you are interested in follow the steps below:

(i) visit -

(ii) Login using: your index number as username, exam year and password used during registration (Use Your Birth Certificate No. / KCPE Index No (as used in KCSE Exam Registration) as your Initial Password)

(iii) After login, click on Institutions then select JKUAT from the list of Institutions.

(iv) All the courses are displayed here. Click on the course you want to transfer to. Your cluster weight will be displayed on the last column far left side.

(v) Compare your cluster weight above with the 2019 cut-off on the first column. If the cluster weight is equal to or greater than the 2019 cut-off and you also meet the required cluster subjects required then you qualify for the course.

(vi)If your cluster weight is less than the 2019 cut-off or you DO NOT meet the cluster subjects, then you DO NOT qualify for that course and therefore, you should NOT request for change to that course.

Once you have confirmed that you qualify, visit login and go to step 10 and follow the instructions given to apply online for change of course.


JKUAT staff and students, with support from KENET, can apply for discounted mobile Internet data bundles via this link:

Students are expected to click on the link and fill the form with their details.

As seen in, new registrations/submissions take up to 14 days to be enrolled for discounted bundles.


Hostel booking is currently Not Available.  We will notify all students once it is open through our website and social media platforms. Please do not pay for University accommodation until you have been allocated a room.


In case you are stuck and need help at any point during the registration process, kindly use the following email addresses based on the college in which you belong. Ensure you indicate your registration number and clearly outline the problem you are experiencing, e.g. if its challenges logging in mention the specific system – student portal / admission System/ email activation etc.
