JKUAT and DAAD teams in a commemorative photo
The University of Passau, based in Germany, in collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), is currently exploring the possibility of a strategic partnership with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
Representatives of DAAD led by their Director Ms. Beate Schindler-Kovats and Programme Officer Mr. Jules Onyango accompanied by Prof. Joachim Possega of Passau University visited the University on Thursday, March 30, 2023 on a fact-finding mission.
During their visit, the DAAD team expressed their enthusiasm for fostering academic cooperation between German and Kenyan Universities.
Prof. Possega was impressed with the academic programs and research initiatives at JKUAT and was confident that the cooperation will promote diversity in the field of research.
“I believe that a partnership between our institutions will provide an opportunity for joint research projects and student exchange programs. We are committed to promoting academic exchange between JKUAT and Passau University,” said Prof. Possega.
He added that through collaborations, a network of scholars can be created to work together towards finding solutions to global challenges.
DAAD leveraged on the platform to conduct a follow up session on the academic progress of students under their scholarship at JKUAT. Prof. Possega also used the opportunity to enlighten undergraduate students from the School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT) on Information and Technology opportunities at Passau University.
The key areas of potential collaboration identified were; joint research projects, faculty exchange programs, and student exchange programs.
Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Robert Kinyua who received the visiting team was optimistic of the collaboration prospect saying. “This collaboration will not only enhance the diversity of our research but also expose our students and faculty to different academic and research environment”.
SCIT Director, Dr. Michael Kimwele said the available opportunities in Germany presents students with more opportunities after graduation.
He urged students to be proactive in seeking for opportunities that will benefit their careers.
