Message from the In-Charge, Planning Section

Our dear clients it is with gratitude that I take this opportunity to explain to you our products and services at the printery section. The printery section is primarily a service department. We offer our services to our internal and external customers (all the other departments of the university) and the general public. Our services are basically at a cost but we have to add a little mark-up to cover the wear and tear for posterity.

As explained below our services cover all types of printing from graduation material (brochures, booklets, invitation cards etc), exam writing papers and the actual exam papers on requests, accounts documents (receipts, invoices, delivery notes, etc) hospital stationery, business cards among others.

In brief we cater for all the university printing needs. Where we are not able to do the printing directly we facilitate the outsourcing. You need it printed; we are there for you. Read more

Brief History

The University Printing and Publishing Press, formally resource centre under library, was established in 1981 with the mandate of providing photocopying services to then, Jomo Kenyatta College of Agriculture and Technology (JKCAT).
Due to the rapid University expansion, the Department has assumed additional official roles of printing, publishing, designing, binding and lamination services; that have also been extended to clientele outside the University community at competitive rates. These services include printing of books, graduation booklets and invitation cards, business cards, journals, magazines, posters, conference proceeding and training manuals in addition to undertaking printing typesetting, and photocopying services and general stationeries available to students

Currently the Division which is now an Income generating unit (IGU) aspires to be the best in the University in providing necessary services towards the achievement of JKUAT Vision and Mission.

To produce quality print products and services and exceed customer expectations through designing, editing, printing, publishing, print finishing and binding.

The infrastructure consists of a medium size workplace at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology which houses the following facilities:

The typesetting section;
The graphic design and machine operation sections, and;
The printing and processing lines.

Objectives of the Section

To provide efficient printing and photocopying services to the University community as per requests
To produce designs and layouts of publications that meet and exceed the expectations of customers as requested.
To provide professional book binding services to our customers as per their request.
To reduce dependence on the University’s scarce resources.
To reduce the University’s dependence on outsourced printing and publishing products.
To ensure efficient, cost-effective operations through adoption of prudent management practices.

1. Graphic Design and Typesetting

The Printery department facilitates jobs on:

Designs of publications i.e. brochures, business cards, posters, graduation invitation cards, journals, departmental, public publications and any other requested work by the University.
Typesetting services of students log books, projects, research papers and any other requested data entry service.
Editing of requested departmental / students publications i.e policy books

2. Printing and Photocopying

Production of general stationery i.e receipt books, imprests etc.
Production of examination materials, logbooks
Production of teaching materials, graduation booklets/ invitation cards
Production of information and promotional materials i.e brochures, posters, leaflets
