On 28th February, 2022, the directorate conducted a thorough IP sensitization to computing students who were on internal attachment at JKUAT. The sensitization was done at IPIC building in Engineering workshops. The computing students were divided into two groups, computer technology and computer science. The first session that began at 9.30am was conducted to Computer technology students whereas the computer science was done in the afternoon at 2pm. The Director, DIPUIL emphasized on the need to utilize the 1.5kg of the brain and importance of IP to socio-economic problems. Most students were mesmerized at how IP is vital while yet very few have had a glimpse of IP. The director further encouraged students to be innovative so as to enhance the overall motto of the university and at least offer solutions to problems. Equally, Jenner Akwale and Simon Njuguna conducted training on patent information search and Design thinking respectively. Students were introduced to Espacenet, Patentscope and Google patent. Further, Jenner Akwale introduced students on IP filing and respective regimes that one can seek protection both at KIPI and KECOBO. Since the establishment of DIPUIL, the university has enhanced the level of awareness in intellectual property matters and has taken a notch higher by meeting students and encouraging them to be innovative.
