Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has successfully negotiated the new Performance Contract for the FY 2019/ 2020. This culminated from a long day of intensive negotiations with senior officials from the Ministry of Education. It was followed by vetting of the negotiated Performance Contract by the Public Service Performance Management Department for quality assurance in readiness for implementation.
The JKUAT negotiation team was led by the Chairman of Council Prof. Paul Njuki Kanyari and Commissioner Peter Okwanyo. They were assisted by the University management comprising the Vice Chancellor, Victoria W. Ngumi, the DVC (Finance) Prof. Bernard O. Moirongo, the DVC (Research Production & Extension), Prof. Mary Abukutsa, the Ag. DVC (Academic Affairs), Prof. Robert Kinyua, and the DVC (Administration), Prof. (Eng.) Bernard Ikua.
The technical assistance was provided by the Performance Contracting Team led by the Director DiPCA, Prof. John M. Wesonga. Other members of the team were Dr. Joseph Obwogi (Registrar, RPE), Dr. Rose Ndegwa (Registrar, Administration), Dr. Esther Muoria (Registrar, AA), Ms. Vivian Nyambura (Chief Legal Officer), Ms. Mary Ngugi (Ag. Finance
Officer), Dr. Charles Gaya (Deputy Director, DiPCA) and Mr. Anderson Mwito (Snr.
Administrator, DiPCA). The negotiations were preceded by a sensitization session for several Institutions under the Ministry. The Contract was this year developed guided by the 16th Cycle Performance Contracting Guidelines released by the Public Service Performance Management Department
The negotiation and vetting exercises were conducted in Kajiado and Athi River, respectively. The Contract will be signed at a ceremony at later date between the Cabinet Secretary of Education and the University Council Chairman. However, after the successful negotiation and vetting, the University has been given the go ahead to cascade the contract to all levels implement it.
