Between September 22 nd and 25 th , 2025, JKUAT participated in Good Grant Practice Virtual Academy (GGP-VA), Grant Writing Workshop. The GGP-VA initiative led by Dr. Joseph Gichuru (Deputy Executive Director, APHRC) brought together 40 participants
from diverse African institutions. The workshop equipped attendees with practical skills to develop competitive research proposals, contributing to stronger institutional capacity for resource mobilization. This engagement not only enhanced the visibility of GGP-VA
but also reinforced APHRC’s role in building a robust research and innovation ecosystem that enables African researchers and institutions to translate knowledge into tangible societal impact.

The JKUAT GGP Virtual Academy team was comprised of Prof. Naomi Maina (Director, Grants Management – Lead), CPA Mary Ngugi (Chief Finance Officer), Dr. Susan Mambo (Public Health) and Ms. Catherine Wangechi (Snr. Administrator – Directorate of Grants Management). Prior to the workshop, the team of four Prof. Naomi Maina, CPA Mary Ngugi, Dr. Susan Mambo and Ms. Catherine Wangechi had completed 8 modules of the GFP Virtual Academy Program. The modules included; Introduction to GFGP, Grant Management and Compliance, Human Resource Management, Financial Management and Controls, Governance, Risk Management, Budgeting and Procurement).
More JKUAT staff are now undertaking the virtual training. This efforts are reflection of the University’s commitment in strengthening accountability in management of grants and expansion of funding opportunities Good Grant Practice is a capacity-strengthening initiative. This is achieved by equipping institutions with the necessary tools, knowledge, and systems to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in managing donor funds within the framework of the Good Financial Grant Practice (GFGP Standard). JKUAT obtained the GFGP Gold Tier Certification in March 2025 with the support of APHRC and thus continually endeavors to foster good grant practices and subsequently enhanced donor funding. In recognition of JKUAT’s attainment of the GFGP Gold tier Certification, JKUAT has been selected by
APHRC to mentor eight other institutions in Africa in the GFGP accreditation process
