JKUAT University Industry Liaison Section

The University Industry Liaison Section, established under the Directorate of Intellectual Property Management and University-Industry Liaison (DIPUIL), serves as a bridge between JKUAT and the industry. Our core function is to promote, commercialize the university’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), and foster strong industry partnerships.

What We Do:

  • Intellectual Property Management:
    • Implement the university’s IP Management Policy.
    • Evaluate the marketability of inventions and innovations disclosed by faculty and researchers.
    • Partner with external organizations for effective IP management and exploitation.
    • Establish and maintain procedures for IPR commercialization.
    • Provide services for IP management, evaluation, protection, marketing, and commercialization (including patent agents, consultants, and lawyers).
    • Maintain accurate and transparent documentation of IP expenses.
  • Technology Transfer and Commercialization:
    • Seek commercial and financial partners (venture capital funds) for university innovations.
    • Market the university’s research potential to industry partners.
    • Initiate and promote technology transfer and commercialization of university IP assets, ensuring fair returns for faculty, staff, and the university.
    • Initiate and promote commercialization of university expertise and know-how.
    • Define strategies for effective technology transfer.
    • Organize visits to university labs for potential collaborators.
    • Recommend amendments to the IP Management Policy for Board approval.
  • Industry Collaboration:
    • Partner researchers with industry and government for collaborative research and development projects.
    • Link the university with the JKUAT Industrial and Technology Park and other industries.
    • Field inquiries from industry partners.
    • Facilitate access for companies, research organizations, and government agencies to university knowledge, expertise, and technologies.
    • Maintain a register/directory of collaborators.
  • Student and Staff Development:
    • Seek jobs, internships, and external attachment placements for students.
    • Assist staff in securing apprenticeship and industrial attachment opportunities.
    • Help researchers and students develop entrepreneurial skills and mindsets.
  • Support for Innovation and Entrepreneurship:
    • Manage incubation/commercialization activities in collaboration with relevant university units.
    • Recommend and support initiatives that foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the university community.
