Getting to know more about the project site before project implementation is key to achieving credible project outputs. This is what drove the Water Research and Resource and Center (WARREC) to conduct a two-day reconnaissance visits on 4th – 5th July 2019 for the 2nd cohort of the Upper Tana Nairobi Water Fund (UTNWF) fellowship awardee in the Upper Tana. The UTNWF Project Fellowships are awarded by The Water Research and Resource Center (WARREC) under its Upper Tana Nairobi Water Fund (UTNWF) – JKUAT component funded by The Nature Conservancy (TNC).
The team comprising of six (6) scholarship beneficiaries, their supervisors and the project implementing team visited the Ndakaini and Sasumua Catchments and were able to be taken through the project sites. Speaking during the visits, Director WARREC and cordinator of the project Prof. Bancy Mati congratulated the awardee and urged them to move with speed in the implementation of their various proposed projects seeking topical guidance from the supervisors. She further informed the team to make use of the resources available and the partnerships fostered with the project partners to accomplish their studies.
The project’s goal is to upgrade river monitoring stations to and carry out biophysical data analysis as part of research inputs, knowledge management and Institutional capacity development (component 3) of the IFAD-funded Upper Tana- Nairobi Water Fund (UTNWF) Project. To date the project has been able to upgrade 6 stations to telemetric station with two receiver stations one being at JKUAT WARREC office and offered 15 Msc fellowships.
