Prof. Mati giving her Presentation at the Water week in Washington DC
When leaders and experts on water drawn from all corners of the world met earlier this week in Washington DC, USA, Prof. Bancy Mati, the Director of WARREC, was among them, invited as a Keynote speaker. The event, held from 2nd to 4th April 2019, was organized and hosted by the World Bank Group’s Global Practice; comprising The World Bank (WB), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
This flagship global conference brought together leading innovators, thought leaders, partners, and practitioners together with World Bank staff and clients to connect the best global knowledge with implementation – and bring cutting-edge solutions to critical challenges across the broad water sector. The event was meant to promote global learning and dialogue designed around the three strategic pillars of Sustaining Water Resources, Delivering Services, and Building Resilience, while also drawing from expertise and experience across the international participants.
Prof. Mati’s Keynote presentation was entitled “Delivering Water for Agriculture Services: What Niche for the Smallholder Farmer in Sub-Saharan Africa? This session focused on solutions from key partner agencies and innovators towards provision of water in agriculture to meet the world’s food needs. It addressed issues relevant to the Water GP is focused on projects involving farmer-led solutions, multiuse infrastructure, basin-wide resources, innovations and financing solutions. In her presentation. Prof. Mati highlighted the challenges facing agricultural water for smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa, then provided solutions across technologies, innovations, social and financial models that have been adopted in the region.
