Meeting at Enonkishu conservancy
In an effort to set its foot in the Masai Mara ecosystem, the Water Research and Resource Center (WARREC) is working closely with the Masai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association (MMWCA) to foster collaboration to address research gaps that exist in the Mara. This is in partnership with the Soil Water and environmental Engineering Department (SWEED), and the Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering Department (CCEE).

In September 2017 the first meeting to initiate the collaboration was held in JKUAT followed by a reconnaissance visit by the JKUAT team on 7th – 8th December 2017 led by WARREC through its Director Prof. Bancy Mati. The field visit was aimed at; familiarizing with the Maasai Mara ecosystem, making further discussions with the Maasai Mara Conservancies Association team on how to address research issues in the Mara and explore some of the research gaps that exist in the Maasai Mara ecosystem. This was a 2 day visit that show two conservancies i. e Enonkishu and Pardamat within the jurisdiction of the Masai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association alongside one community water harvesting project named Ololturoto water harvesting project.

Study of the hydrology of the springs , Biomass production and variarion and use of technology in wildlife management within the Maasai Mara ecosystem came out strongly as some of the research gaps that need to be addressed.
