WARREC starts implementing project to Monitor Rivers in the Upper Tana Catchment
Water Research and Resource Center (WARREC) has officially started the implementation of the Upper Tana Nairobi Water Fund (UTNWF) JKUAT –component project. This is a 3 year project funded by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and is aimed at establishing automatic gauging stations that will enable regular monitoring of the rivers in the Upper Tana Catchment. Specifically the project will carry out biophysical data analysis as part of research inputs, knowledge management and Institutional capacity development (component 3) of the IFAD-funded Upper Tana- Nairobi Water Fund (UTNWF) Project.
Through a series of reconnaissance visits, the project implementing team lead by the project coordinator and Director WARREC Prof. Bancy Mati, started with the identification of the appropriate site for the establishment of the stations. The project aims at installing Telemetric stations on the 13 RGS within the Upper Tana and especially those of interest to Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company as the Key stakeholder and also support fifteen (15) Msc. scholarships.
The project is implemented by a team of six members led by Prof. Bancy Mati- Project coordinator, Dr. Hosea Mwangi- SWEED- JKUAT, Mr. Wycliffe Nyangau- WARREC- JKUAT, Mr. Justus Makau- TNC, Mr. Job Kihamba- NCWSC and Ms. Faith Mbathi- WRMA
