International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) Grant

IUPAP is an international Union that promotes and facilitates conferences and activities for women in physics in the wide field of pure and applied physics. This program was created to help fund women from developing and low-income countries, who may not have another opportunity, to attend either regional or international conferences, workshop or school.

This year, one of our own, Dorothy Kanini Mwanzia – SC342-5190/2015, a Postgraduate student studying MSc. Geophysics in the Physics Department has been awarded this grant to attend the POWER & ENERGY Conference in Kigali Convention Centre, Rwanda from 23 – 25 May 2019. Ms. Dorothy has completed her Masters Research thesis awaiting examination. This is a unique opportunity for her to gain knowledge and insight to solve various challenges as well as furthering her education. The conference will also provide a unique opportunity for her to collaborate with other physicists in the world.

This travel grant program from the IUPAP (International Union of Pure and Applied Physics) Women in Physics can only be applied by women physicists from low-income developing countries. And more opportunities are yet to be given in the years to come.
