Welcome to the Medical Laboratory Sciences Department at Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT). JKUAT was the first university in Kenya to offer Medical Laboratory Sciences as an undergraduate program, and the first graduates were awarded their Bachelor of Science degrees in 2004.
Our department strives to set trends in clinical laboratory education by once more pioneering postgraduate programs in Medical Laboratory Sciences. The Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences and the Master of Medical Laboratory Sciences were rolled out in 2012 to provide opportunities to advance clinical laboratory education beyond the undergraduate level. This will essentially open up avenues of research in the clinical laboratory arena in our region.
Our department is committed to instructing students academically and technically, prepare students for their requisite board registration exams, to provide the technical basis for employment, to mould graduates into the professional scientists who will play an effective role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases by acquiring appropriate knowledge, attitudes, skills and ethics necessary for professional practice.
We endeavour to produce laboratory medicine graduates who will contribute to the growth and advancement of healthcare demands and respects the role that all healthcare professionals play in providing quality patient care.
It is our hope that the passion of our graduates for the profession will extend beyond their daily job.
