PhD MINING ENGINEERING

 

Admission Requirements

The following shall be eligible for admission into the PhD program in Mining Engineering:

  1. A holder of a Master of Science in Engineering degree or equivalent qualifications recognized by the University Senate, in Mining engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geomatic Engineering, or any related Earth Sciences.

  2. In addition, a candidate must submit a research proposal approved by the School postgraduate board to be eligible for admission.

Research Fields

The Doctoral PhD mining involves activities in the fields of earth sciences that fit into the profile of the department of mining engineering and that are within the scope of the accreditation granted to the doctoral program in the two main streams as follows:

  • Mining Engineering
    • mine ventilation and mine services
    • simulation and optimization
    • mining operations research
    • rock mechanics and geotechnics
    • mine valuation and production economics
  • Mineral Processing
    • process control, modelling
    • simulation and optimization
    • fine particle technology
    • surface chemistry of flotation
    • plant design and economics
    • coal preparation technology

MSc MINING ENGINEERING

 

Admission Requirements

The following shall be eligible for admission into the MSc. in Mining Engineering program:

  1. A holder of at least second class honors (Upper Division) BSc degree in Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering; Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geomatic Engineering, or any related Earth Sciences from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, OR

  2. A holder of at least second class honors (Upper Division), Bachelor of Science degree in a field in Engineering, Geology, or Geophysics from any other institution recognized by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status to (a) above, OR

  3. A holder of Second Class honors (Lower Division), Bachelor of Science degree in the relevant field from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology or from any other institution, which is recognized by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status and who in addition must show proof of either two years relevant experience and professional development or academic advancement through research and publication since graduation with the bachelor’s degree or a postgraduate Diploma in the relevant field, OR

  4. A holder of other qualifications recognized by University Senate as being equivalent to (1), (2), and (3)

Admission Requirements

The following shall be eligible for admission into the MSc Programme in Petroleum Engineering:

  1. A holder of at least second class honors (Upper Division), Bachelor of Science degree in a field in Engineering, Geology, or Geophysics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, OR
  2. A holder of at least second class honors (Upper Division), Bachelor of Science degree in a field in Engineering, Geology, or Geophysics from any other institution recognized by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status to (a) above, OR

  3.
