Staff Members and Post Graduate Students Trained on Library E-Resources

On Tuesday 2nd August 2016, staff members and postgraduate students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering were sensitized on the Library Electronic Resources. The three-hour training was facilitated by University Library Staff; Mr. R. O. Midigo and Mrs. Mary Wachira. During the training, participants were taken through the available electronic information resources which JKUAT has subscribed to for use in teaching and research. These electronic resources are hosted at various databases which the university has subscribed to. Some of these databases include; Elsevier, Science-Direct, Taylor & Francis, IEEE, among others.
Participants were also taken through the JKUAT Digital Repository and how to use OpenDoar to access theses and dissertations in various universities. To increase one’s visibility, members were urged to register with Google Scholar. Members were informed of the Anti-Plagiarism Software (Plagiarism Detector) which the university has acquired for use by postgraduate students and their supervisors to ensure quality research.
While thanking the Library Staff for this sensitization, the Chairman of Department Dr. M. Muvengei noted that, the staff members and postgraduate students have been enlightened on the available electronic information which is quite useful in the research and teaching. He urged all the members to make use of these electronic tools. He also requested the University Librarian to avail the Plagiarism Detector software to the departmental members of staff and postgraduate students who are willing to make use of this facility.
