The department of mechanical Engineering seeks to partner with Industry to foster development of research and short course programs that benefit the society. Such partnership exist between the department and other public and private sector entities to enhance local skills in areas such as lubrication technology, aluminium construction materials, renewable energy, mining, among other areas. Having been in the training sector for a long time the department has requisite experience and competence to develop short courses and post graduate programs that are tailor made for sectors related to mechanical engineering.
The department of Mechanical Engineering has staff with sufficient competence to undertake work in diverse areas of Engineering. Past projects include a study on the deficiencies of pumping system of the fuel pipeline transferring fuel from Mombasa to Nairobi on behalf of Ministry of Energy that was done in 2009. This study steered by Mechanical Engineering department was successfully carried out by a group of 6 Engineers from Mechanical and Electrical Engineering departments.

- GLASS REINFORCED PLASTIC TANKS AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO GALVANIZED HOT WATER TANKS
- DESIGN OF A SAFETY AND PRODUCTIVITY ENHANCEMENT SYSTEM FOR CADBURY KENYA LIMITED
