Eng. Kariuki Award

This is an initiative by Eng. B.K. Kariuki to motivate students in one of the core courses in the Mechanical Engineering programme. The award honours the best student in the founding unit of Engineering Thermodynamics course where the student receives the course text book. This has been going on for the last five years. The first and second recipients of the award, since its inception, are working with East African Breweries and Kenya Airways, respectively. Marine Engineering students complete cadet training course at National Youth Service

A group of 28 students from the Marine Engineering course completed a Cadet Training course at the National Youth Service (NYS) training center at Gilgil. The training was organized jointly by JKUAT through the Department of Mechanical Engineering and National Youth Service as part of mandatory training requirements for qualification of marine engineers. The training was undertaken for a period of four weeks and composed of second and third year students. 2012 Sustainable Research and Innovation Conference

The Department of Mechanical Engineering hosted the 3rd Annual Sustainable Research and Innovation (SRI) Conference between May 3rd and May 4th 2012. The conference was held at African Institute of Capacity and Development (AICAD) and had participants drawn from all over the world. Several universities were represented from Poland, Japan, United States of America, South Africa, Rwanda and South Korea. Effective Teaching and Research Workshop

The Department of Mechanical Engineering holds training for its staff members. This involves guiding them on effective methods of delivery of lectures to students and subsequent evaluation of students. This year an Effective Teaching and Research Workshop was conducted for 2 days at the Africa Institute of Capacity and Development (AICAD) on 12th and 13th January 2012.
