 About the Program

 The Intra-ACP academic mobility Scheme supports higher education cooperation between countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the pacific (ACP). The scheme aims to promote sustainable development and poverty alleviation by increasing the availability of trained and qualified high-level professional manpower in the ACP countries. The program builds on the African Union’s Mwalimu Nyerere programe for Africa with funding from the European Commission. Sharing Capacity to Build Capacity for Quality Graduate Training in Agricuture in African Universities (SHARE) in one of the Intra-ACP Mobility Scheme supported projects with the 12 partner universities in Eastern, Cebtral, Southern and Western Africa (see www.asharecap.com for details). Applications are Invited for SHARE mobility Scholarships. SHARE is designed to provide resources and opportunities for students and staff mobility from regions of Africa offering support for Masters, Doctoral studies and as well as staff exchange among the consortium partners.

 

  1. Who is Eligible?

 The scholarship is open to students from institutions mentioned below:

  • Stellenbosch University, South Africa
  • University of Cape Coast. Ghana
  • University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria
  • Lilongwe University of Agriculture and natural Resources (LUANAR), Malawi
  • Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya
  • Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique
  • Makerere University, Uganda
  • University of Zambia, Zambia

 

To be eligible, Doctoral candidates referred as “students” must:

1.Be a national and resident in any of the eligible countries mentioned above.

2.Be registered/admitted at one of the HEIs within the partnership at the time of the application for a scholarship (Ta r g e t G r o u p 1 ), specifically the ones mentioned above

  1. 3. Have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses in the host countries.
  2. 4. Partial scholarships are for short mobilities (i.e. mobilities shorter than program duration). The intended undertaking during short mobilities must be recognized as an integral part of the student academic program. For this category the applicant must provide proof of enrolment into a PhD program in an ACP country.

4. What the Scholarship Covers

The scholarship covers: subsistence allowance: 900EUR per month, settling in allowance: 900 EUR, Medical insurance: 75EUR per month and travel expenses: return air ticket and visa costs. For details, please refer to the brochure on the project website.

It is recommended that applicants read the conditions and financial arrangements on the SHARE website carefully before applying. Scholarships are awarded based on merit, relevance, and meeting the specified requirements and subject to admission by the host institution. The SHARE Program encourages the submission of applications by women and marginalized individuals.

 

  1. 5. How to Apply for a SHARE Scholarship

The following steps will guide you through the application process for the

SHARE Scholarship.

Part 1 : Before submitting an application:

  1. Check for eligibility by reading the call guidelines on this website
  2. 2. Choose and select the academic programme for which you wish to apply for a scholarship and ensure that you understand the Tuition Language in which the programme of your choice is instructed
  3. 3. Ensure that you have an academic background required by the academic programme you have selected
  4. 4. You can neither apply to more than one academic programme nor Hosting   institution
  5. 5. Several documents are mandatory, if not uploaded or attached the form cannot be submitted or your application will not be accepted
  6. 6. In circumstances where documents are corrupted, unclear or unreadable, the application will be considered invalid and will not be evaluated
  7. 7. Only applications submitted online or by email will be accepted. Exceptions may apply based on country realities.

Part 2 : Online Submission

To complete the online application form (See: Guidelines for Applicants) on the project website. Follow the steps therein and remember to attach all the required supporting documents.

Part 3: Submission by E mail

  1. 1. Download the MS Word version of the application form, Word process it using a computer. No hand written applications will be accepted
  2. 2. Obtain recommendations from your home/sending institution in your country.
  3. 3. Scan all the required documents including certified academic testimonials and evidence of your nationality (data page of your passport or national identity card) for electronic submission. Only documents submitted electronically will be considered.
  4. 4. Attach all the required supporting documents
  5. 5. Submit your completed application form and other requirements as attachments by email to shareproject@caes.mak.ac.ug. The deadline for receiving applications is

  1. 6. Confirm that your application was received by sending a separate email to dorcaslokello@gmail.com requesting for acknowledgement of receipt of your application.

Part 4 : Documents to be submitted by the applicants

  1. 1. The applicants should submit all the required documents, together with the application form either digital format or in print. In the case of print it has to be sent to the SHARE Secretariat by courier.
  2. i. Evidence of Nationality (a data page of the applicant’s passport/or National ID issued by an authorized authority)
  3. ii. Academic Testimonials and Certificates

iii. Curriculum vitae/resume

  1. iv. Certificate of language proficiency where the language of instruction in the programme applied for is different from that use in your previous studies.

2. All documents above mentioned must be attached to the application form. It is important to highlight the fact that in c o m p l et e ap p l i cat i o n s o r w i t h b l an k or unreadable doc um e nt s or unc e r t i f i e d doc um e nt s will not   be considered eligible and will immediately be excluded.

 

Part 5: Application s Evaluation a n d Select ion

The following process will apply in the evaluation and selection of the applicants;

Eligibility criteria

Eligibility check for TG1 will be conducted by the HEI in the country of origin. The criteria for eligibility will include:

  1. a) Proof that the candidate is from legible country
  2. b) The candidate fulfills the Target Group requirements
  3. c) The application deadline is respected
  4. d) The right application form is used
  5. e) All required documents are provided and are legible
  6. f) The application is in English

A committee comprising of representatives of all the partner institutions will evaluate the applications. A panel of three members selected from the committee will assess and score each application independently based on the criteria outlined in the table below. Members of the panel for each candidate exclude the home/sending HEI and include a member from the host HEI. The institution in the country of origin will independently assess the applications from their respective countries and make recommendations to the selection committee. However, the committee is not obliged to follow the recommendations of the HEI in the country of origin.

3          Selection of the   candidates

The committee will use scores of the independent assessment to award the scholarships. Where necessary the committee may consult the recommendations of HEIs in the country of origin.

4          Communication of the selection results

After the final selection of the applicants by the committee, the SHARE Secretariat will communicate to all applicants (by email) regarding the outcomes of the selection process. A candidate may be selected outright, put on the reserve list or rejected. The communications will also be copied to the respective HEIs in the countries of origin. Only the successful candidates will be published on the project website unless we receive an objection from the candidate.

 

Please note that in case a selected applicant is afterwards identified as not eligible, the individual must reimburse the costs incurred by the project until that moment.

Sharing Capacity to Build Capacity for Quality Graduate training in Agriculture in African Universities (SHARE) is one of the Intra-ACP Mobility Scheme supported projects with 12 partner universities in Eastern, Central, Southern and Western Africa (see www.africasharecapacity.com for details). Applications are invited for SHARE mobility scholarships. SHARE is designed to provide resources and opportunities for students’ mobility from four regions of Africa, offering support for Masters and Doctoral studies as well as staff exchange among the consortium partners.

Who is Eligible?

The scholarships are open to Academic and Administrative Staff from:

  • Stellenbosch University, South Africa
  • University of Cape Coast. Ghana
  • University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria
  • Lilongwe University of Agriculture and natural Resources (LUANAR), Malawi
  • Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kenya
  • Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique
  • Makerere University, Uganda
  • University of Zambia, Zambia

An applicant must:

  1. Be a national and resident in the above partner countries
  2. Work in or be associated with any of the above mentioned HEI at the time of application for a scholarship.
  3. Have sufficient knowledge of the language used in the host countries.

In addition, mobility assignments will be based on agreement between the members of the partnership. The home and host partners and the individual staff will have to agree on the programme of lectures to be delivered by the visiting staff, research activities, type of training to be followed or type of administrative cooperation to be developed.

  1. Scholarship Offers Available

Seven (7) scholarships are available for Academic and administrative staff mobilities to address mutually agreed needs for professional development of university staff in any of the partner countries (check www.asharecap.com for a detailed list). Staff opportunities are limited to staff employed by the project partner universities, and hence enhance sharing capacities and mutual institutional exchanges. Benchmarking exercises and sabbatical research periods are included in this type of mobility. Specifically, activities of mutual interest may include: guest lecturing, curriculum development, collaborative research, sharing of knowledge and experiences in administration/management, mentorship, etc. The duration of the mobilities is between 1-3 months.

  1. What the scholarship covers

The scholarship covers subsistence allowance (Eur. 1,000 per month), medical insurance (Eur. 75 per month), return air-ticket and visa expenses. For details, please refer to the brochure on the project website.

How to Apply for a SHARE Scholarship

Please refer to the areas of interest for staff exchange by the partner institutions published on the project website; www.Asharecap.com. To apply, download the staff application form on the project website and complete it in MS Word. Send the typed form as attachment to shareproject@caes.mak.ac.ug with a copy to pkibwika@caes.mak.ac.ug and dorcaslokello@gmail.com. In addition, please also attach the following documents: Proof of employment by a partner institution, an up-to-date curriculum vitae, and letter of support from the sending institution. No hand written applications will be accepted.

  1. Applications Evaluation and Selection

2 Evaluation of the Applications

The following procedures will be followed in the selection of the applicants:

  1. Your application will be sent to the host institution to establish their interest and willingness to host and support the intended activities
  2. The host institution will communicate to SHARE secretariat regarding their willingness to host the applicant and the most appropriate timing for the proposed activities. The host institution may modify, add or take away some of the proposed activities.
  3. The feedback from the host institution will be communicated to the applicant.
  4. Once a mutual agreement is reached, the project scholarship selection committee will make a decision on mobility.
  5. The decision of the selection committee will be communicated to the applicant and host institution and logistical arrangement will commence to implement the mobility

Please note that in case a selected applicant is afterwards identified as not eligible, the individual must reimburse the costs incurred by the project until that moment.
