Prof. Mabel Imbuga has been re-appointed to serve as the Vice-Chancellor of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) for another term of five years, with effect from 1st August 2013. Her reappointment by the Education, Science and Technology Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, follows her recognition as a woman with outstanding and longstanding leadership and administration skills.
Imbuga, a Professor of Biochemistry, has manned a huge transformation of the institution since her initial appointment as the Vice Chancellor on August 1, 2008. Major among her achievements is the facilitation of creation of new academic programs that have seen the student population grow by over 300% in the last five years. She has committed herself to steering the training and production of graduates with innovative skills to meet the market demand. Prof. Imbuga is currently leading a consortium of more than ten partners in support the government’s plan to provide a laptop to every child joining class 1 in public primary schools. This project will have its footing on JKUAT’s personal computer assembly project which has the potential to produce 1.4 million laptops annually. The Vice Chancellor is also the current chair, Joint Admissions Board as well as chair of the Inter-University Council of East Africa.
