Preamble

JKUAT, in realisation of its important role in enhancement of science and technology, and to complement the national efforts to achieve economic growth in line with its vision of becoming a university of global excellence in training, research and innovation for development, has organised the Annual Scientific, Technological and Industrialisation Conference since the year 2005, that has continually drawn participation from around the globe.

The objectives of the conference are to:

(i) Provide a forum through which the University will disseminate the ongoing contributions it is making to the society.

(ii) Create a forum for constantly improving the University’s approach to development-oriented scientific research, as it strives to remain a leader in this area.

(iii) Provide a forum for research peers from local and international institutions to discuss, share and publish vital information.

(iv) Provide an opportunity for the industry to interact with researchers and innovators through exhibitions.

(v) Provoke policy makers to appreciate the need for substantial and long-term investments in scientific research, innovation and industrialization.

Sub-themes:

The sub-themes for the conference are:

1. Basic and applied sciences for advancement of research and industrialization.

2. Advances in human and animal health sciences.

3. Engineering technologies, built environment and infrastructure for industrialization.

4. Information and communication technology for development

5. Policy, governance, entrepreneurship, cultural and socio-economic aspects for competitive advantage.

6. Innovative agricultural sciences, technologies and global networking for sustainable food production and security.

7. Water, energy, environment and climate change.

Guidelines to Authors:

Application for participation in the conference can be made by completing an online application and uploading the abstract at http://41.204.167.96/ocs/index.php/sciconf/conf2014

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 25th July 2014. The abstract, written in English, should be structured as follows:

(i) It should not be more than 300 words, with a maximum of 7 key words, and in MS Word.

(ii) The body of the abstract should be in font type ‘Times New Roman’ and font size 12.

(iii) The heading should be in font size 12 and bold.

(iv) The name(s) of the author(s) and their contacts should be in font size 11.

The abstract should outline the aims, methodology, results, discussion and conclusions. It should include the title, the name(s) of the author(s), affiliation, mailing address, e-mail address and mobile contacts. Authors should also state the sub-theme and indicate their preference for oral or poster presentation. The deadline for acceptance of full papers will be 10th September 2014. Guidelines for the full papers will be provided in due course.

Exhibitions:

There will be facilities and space at the conference venue for organisations and individuals to exhibit products and disseminate information relevant to the conference theme. Location JKUAT main campus is situated in Juja, 35 km North-East of Nairobi City, along Nairobi-Thika superhighway.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is available in Nairobi, Thika, Ruiru and Juja towns, with rates between US$ 40 (KES 3,200) and US$ 250 (KES 20,000).

The conference fee will cater for conference materials, refreshments and lunches.
