ABOUT US

The College of Human Resource Development (CoHRED) dates back to the early 1980s as a department of Social Sciences in what was then Jomo Kenyatta College of Agriculture and Technology. Its mandate was to provide social sciences. In 1990, following the upgrading of the college to a constituent college of Kenyatta University, the department was upgraded to the Institute of Human Resource Development. In 1992, in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), University of Illinois and the then Ministry of Research, Technical Training and Technology, the institute launched its first degree programme, the MSc. Entrepreneurship with 30 students. When Jomo Kenyatta University College of Agriculture and Technology was chartered to be a fully-fledged university in 1994, the institute begun to offer undergraduate in Business and Social sciences. In 2004, the Institute became the School of Human Resource Development (SHRD) with three (3) departments. The School then became the College of Human Resource Development(CoHRED) which has two (2) Schools, the School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SoBE) and the School of Communication and Development Studies (SCDS). It has six departments namely:
1. Business Administration
2. Procurement and Logistics
3. Entrepreneurship, Technology Leadership and Management
4. Economics Accounting and Finance
5. Media and Applied Technology
6. Development Studies

The College offers a wide range of courses in the fields of Business, Entrepreneurship, Communication and Development Studies from certificate to PhD programmes. The College also has a Centre for Professional studies that mounts professional short courses in Accounting, Supplies management, Human resource management and foreign languages.
