Message From The Principal

I warmly welcome you to the website of College of Engineering and Technology (COETEC). Formerly, we had the Faculty of Engineering (from 1981) that transformed into the premier college of JKUAT (from 2010). Our schools and departments offer training, research and innovation that addresses industry/community challenges. We achieve this through a dedicated team of faculty who have competencies cutting across engineering and built science fields, and who are affiliated to relevant professional bodies. We also have top notch facilities such as laboratories, studios, Engineering workshops, Innovation Prototyping Integrated Center, Sustainable Materials Research and Technology Center and Center for Urban Studies. These facilities have state of art equipment such as 3D printers, CNC Machines, Laser cutting machines) that strengthen our training, research and innovation. The College also works closely with the Directorate of Intellectual Property and University Industry Liaison for intellectual property management of innovations by students and researchers. We also collaborate with professional bodies such EBK and BORAQS, agencies such as those in the transport, energy, construction, manufacturing, among others to develop an Engineer with relevant skills to contribute to national development.

We have 5 schools within the College each headed by a Dean and 13 academic Departments and a dedicate engineering workshop. Each department is headed by a chairperson while the workshop is led by a workshop manager. • The School of Civil, Environmental & Geospatial Engineering (SCEGE), which hosts two Departments namely the:

• Geomatics and Geospatial Information Systems

• The School of Biosystems and Environmental Engineering (SOBEE), which hosts two Departments namely the:

• Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering
• Soil and Water Engineering

• The School of Architecture and Building Sciences (SABS), which hosts three Departments namely the:

• Architecture
• Landscape Architecture
• Construction Management

Quality Control
Our programs are recognized by Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS). We therefore have a collaborative relationship with the professional bodies to ensure that our array of unique and exciting programs meet international standards. These include; Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Telecommunication and Information Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Geomatic and Geospatial, Geographical Information Systems, Marine Engineering, Mining Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Quantity Survey, Construction Management, among others. We closely working with the professional bodies to ensure our programs have international recognition under the Commonwealth Association of Architects for Architecture and Washington Accord for Engineering.

Staff and Students
We have close to 300 academic members of staff, a good portion of who are registered as professional Engineers, Architects and Quantity Surveyors and others as graduate engineers. Graduate engineers are under continuous mentorship for transition to professional engineers. Each of the accredited program has at least 3 thematic leaders. Our students population stands currently at more than 5,000 students who meet minimum requirements as set out in the curriculum. Over the years the college has admitted the government sponsored students as well as self-sponsored students. All students are taught together regardless of the sponsorship criteria.
