MESSAGE FROM THE H.O.D
The Nyanza region of Kenya and its environs has specific health challenges ranging from HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Cancer and other common health conditions. JKUAT Kisii CBD has incorporated a blend of health based and long term academic courses for all levels, right from Certificate, to Diploma, to Bachelor’s degree, to Master’s degree up to PhD levels. Also short courses are available like certificate in First Aid, Occupational Health and Safety and HIV/AIDS Counseling and Management.
These short courses training’s are strategically supported by the university’s corporate partners in order to meet the ever changing training needs of the trainee. M.o.U have been signed between the University and Tabaka Mission hospital, Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital and all sub-county hospitals in the Kisii County territory for students’ practical sessions. The department wishes to acknowledge the Vice Chancellor Prof. Mabel Imbuga, The CS Health Services at Kisii County Mrs. Sarah Omache with her team, The Director Prof. Johanna Sigey & Deputy Director Dr. Walter Okibo both of JKUAT Kisii CBD and the Kisii County Governor Hon. James Ongwae, for the support they gave towards the signing of the memorandum of understanding with some of the neighboring health facilities in and around Kisii County.
Our training involves producing a graduand who will be aimed with 3 E’s, Education, Exposure and Experience. Moreover, we have a well-equipped health sciences’ laboratory which is used by students in their experiments/practical’s. Attachment is a mandatory requirement for it does expose the trainers to their actual objectives.
