MESSAGE FROM THE ASSOCIATE CHAIRMAN OF THE DEPARTMENT

Welcome to the department of business and social sciences, Karen Campus (BSS). BSS currently offers the same programs offered in the former School of Human Resources Development (SHRD) which was recently elevated to the College of Human Resources Development. All our programs are therefore approved by the Senate and the newly formed commission for University Education (CUE). The teaching and examination are as defined and regulated by the JKUAT senate policies.

Our department is monitored and evaluated through regular audits for quality assurance and continuous improvement practices by the university’s department of quality assurance. This ensures our adherence to the ISO certification and CUE requirements while also promoting superior quality service to all our clients. We do have qualified staff some seconded from the main campus departments and others recruited directly into the department.

Our students and staff enjoy the well-equipped state-of-the-art campus with minimal congestion and superb internet connections for online 24/7 library research materials access. We blend our JKUAT team of qualified staff skills with others (on a time basis) from both private and public universities. Experts from the industry are occasionally invited to give industry hands-on experience lectures or participate in real classroom tutorial sessions.

All our academic programs have an industrial attachment practical experience component which is jointly supervised by both our academic staff and specific industry office managers. Both supervisory reports must be marked before any award is granted. Through this rigorous procedure, some of our best students end up securing jobs in the same offices they attached.

The department of BSS at the Karen campus has been granted elevation into three schools each with at least three departments including an ultra-modern center for executive training.
