The JKUAT School of Law recorded yet another enviable feat at the just-concluded Green Law Africa Initiative Moot Court Competition, which was held in Morogoro, Tanzania. This event is arguably the most distinguished regional moot court competition that draws together eight leading law schools from East Africa to engage in active legal discourses on environmental governance, climate justice, and sustainable development.
The competition aimed at putting the participants to a thorough test of their mastery of International Environmental Law, requiring not only technical proficiency but also the application of the same legal principles to real-life climate challenges. Mooters were pushed to explore evolving global frameworks, argue complex climate-related disputes, and demonstrate a deep understanding of the environmental issues shaping Africa’s future. The overarching goal of the event was to inspire young legal minds to contribute meaningfully to the continent’s pursuit of environmental sustainability.
Linda Kamau, Levis Karera, and Clarice Neema represented JKUAT with distinction. The trio demonstrated great analytical ability, outstanding capacity for law research, and persuasiveness throughout the competition. Their preparedness and dedication to all rounds were well appreciated by both the judges and participants. Their persuasiveness and unique manner of presenting the issues before them saw them advance to the semi-finals in an impressive feat by the School of Law.
Adding to their success, the team secured the Best Written Memorials trophy. This trophy is a testament to the team’s overall excellence in legal writing and scholarly rigor, as it combines outstanding structure, insight, and research into the submissions presented. The award also reflects the high academic standards and commitment of the School of Law to nurturing future leaders in environmental and climate justice advocacy. This is a moment of pride for the JKUAT School of Law. It indicates both the talent and potential of the students in the school and also reinforces the institution’s rising profile in regional moot competitions and legal scholarship. The University commends the triumphant team for such great success, as it offers new standards of excellence in environmental legal advocacy.
