JKUAT-School of Law Students Dominates Great Lakes Moot Competition

Presentation of presents

JKUAT School of Law delivered a stellar performance at the prestigious Great Lakes Moot Court Competition, hosted in Nairobi, Kenya. The event brought together top legal minds from 30 universities across East and Central Africa, with representation from 15 Francophone institutions and 17 Anglophone, making it one of the most competitive regional contests in legal advocacy.

Representing JKUAT with exceptional skill and confidence, Camara Castro and Christine Miruka, under the expert guidance of their coach Claude Kandem our former student, showcased not only their mastery of legal principles but also the Institution’s growing reputation for producing world-class advocates. After a series of intense rounds against some of the continent’s greatest formidable law schools, the JKUAT-School of Law team advanced to the grand finals, earning extensive recognition for their command of international legal frameworks, clarity of argument, and persuasive advocacy. Their remarkable journey climaxed in an impressive second-place finish, a milestone achievement that placed JKUAT School of Law firmly among the outstanding voices in regional legal education and advocacy.

This success is more than a victory for the students who argued the case—it is even a proud moment for the entire JKUAT community. It underscores the institution’s commitment to nurturing legal professionals who are not only technically proficient but also capable of participating—and excelling on international platforms. By emerging as runners-up in a field of 30 top-tier universities, JKUAT has once again demonstrated its commitment to intellectual rigor, academic excellence, and practical training. The achievement also highlights the critical role of mooting in fostering cross-border dialogue, sharpening legal minds, and preparing the next generation of advocates to tackle the critical and urgent legal challenges facing Africa and beyond.
