Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) produced the 2015’s winners of Unilever Ideatrophy Business Challenge Competition. Team Ignite comprising of Diana Mugo, Ana Mwende and David Warui, all final year students of Financial Engineering, Food Science and Electrical & Electronic Engineering respectively, will travel to Unilever South Africa, early February 2016, for Unilever Ideatrophy Africa Finals to compete against South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana.
Team Ignite working on the Rexona brand were declared winners, beating over 500 students from 20 participating universities in Kenya.
The Ideatrophy competition gives undergraduates students from various universities countrywide the opportunity to develop and execute strategies that deliver business results. The 2015 edition of Ideatrophy tagged “The Confidence to Do More” tasked the students to generate innovative ideas on creating brand awareness and grow product usage among campus students.
Unilever will provide internship opportunities, iPads and University Trophy to all the students participating in the finals. Under the programme, opportunities as well exist for excelling students to join the multinational as management trainees after graduation.
Speaking recently when the students presented their winning trophy, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mabel Imbuga, lauded the students for participating in the completion. She acknowledged the initiatives would be instrumental in imparting invaluable business skills to students that she emphasized would help them become successful entrepreneurs in a competitive global environment.
Team Ignite thanked the Dean of Students Office for their support throughout the competition and promised the Vice Chancellor to do their best and emerge winners at the continental level.
“I am glad we were part of this innovative competition. Apart from the internship opportunity it accords us at the end of the completion, it has improved our entrepreneurial business competencies,” said Mugo.
