A seminar for the front office staff in the College of Engineering and Technology (CoETEC) came to a close Friday, June 13, 2015 at the Main Campus. During the two-day event, the staffs were inducted on workplace wellness, customer care and financial management, among others.
Addressing the opening session of the seminar, Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi challenged the staff to embrace progressive values and prioritize work. She particularly urged participants to observe the university core values of quality, integrity, innovation, professionalism, teamwork and patriotism.
CoETEC Principal Prof. Bernard Ikua said the seminar is part of the strategy of the college to ensure all staff are equipped with relevant skills and competencies to enable them optimally discharge their mandate.
Reflecting on the seminar, Doris Thimba, an administrative assistant at the college, agrees it was both timely and necessary. She says, the communication and interpersonal skills she acquired during the training will greatly foster her workplace effectiveness.
Another participant, David Mwangi, affirms the team spirit, attitude management and life-work balance strategies learnt during the seminar will benefit participants in their daily office duties with wholesome living.
Over 70 participants attended the seminar. Prof. Ikua says, additional professional seminars will be organized by the college to address other relevant work aspects.
