Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) students across the campuses have resumed learning after reporting back to their respective campuses on January 4, 2020 as per the Government’s directive to all learning institutions.
Commending the University community for complying with the Government health and safety guidelines, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi urged students and staff to remain vigilant during their interactions on and off campus in order to curb the spread of Coronavirus.
She pledged to continue supporting programmes and initiatives that will enhance students’ easy access to essential services in order to help them make smooth transition to learning in the era of Covid-19 pandemic.
The reopening of the university follows a successful session of blended learning that lasted until the university closed in December 2020 for the Christmas holiday.
Vincent Kang’ethe who is a 2nd year student pursuing Bachelor of Pharmacy and JKUSA Treasurer noted that most of the students he has interacted with have rolled up their sleeves in readiness for the new semester set for February 2021, while others are currently revising for the exams which are on-going for the various groups.
Kang’ethe said, he is delighted to be back and eager to hit the ground running after being out of campus for a while.
“Lecturers and students are determined to cover the
remainder of the course work,” Mr. Kang’ethe noted. He was quick to add that the students are ready and up for the challenge.
The Director, Kisii Campus, Prof. Johana Sigey said lecturers and students were busy concluding their classes as they prepare to take the examinations scheduled to kick off next week.
Active teaching and learning activities are going on at Mombasa CBD Campus, with the Campus Deputy Director, Mr. Collins Ondago intimating that, processing of new students admissions is ongoing, while continuing students are set to sit for their exams next week commencing Monday, January 18, 2021. The new Semester begins on Monday, February 1, 2021. The Registrar Academic Affairs has already communicated the approved semester dates for the 2020/2021 academic year for various groups.
