The department of Horticulture and Food Security is in partnership with the college of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Science in Ohio State University – USA in running an exchange program. The students have the opportunity to be placed in the fields of Agriculture, Horticulture and Landscaping. The 2019 intake is ongoing. The Department also has a Memorandum of Understanding with Fresh Produce Exporters Association of Kenya (FPEAK). They have operationalized their 3 staff in JKUAT to link JKUAT to industry more meaningfully.
The Department of Agriculture, Resource and Environmental Science is a member in the Collaborative Master’s program in Agricultural and Applied Economics coordinated by the Africa Economic Research Consortium (AERC). AERC recently awarded the three members of the Department a research grant of US$ 15000 to conduct a secondary analysis on the impact of agricultural policies on nutritional outcomes in Kenya.

The School has had national, regional and international partners and collaborators for research collaboration, resource mobilization, internship and job placement for graduates and external exposure for staff members. They include the following:

• Regional: Ruforum, ASARECA, FARA, Vicres, AGRA, MARI
• International: JICA, ICIPE, DAAD, University of Hannover, Nagoya University, Humboldt University, SIDA, ILRI (BeCa Hub).
