Postgraduate Programmes

MSc. Mechanical Engineering
The Master of Science degree course in Mechanical engineering is offered in the following subject areas:

  • Industrial Engineering,
  • Design and Production Engineering, and
  • Advanced Thermodynamics and Fluids Engineering.

The program consists of course work in the first year, and a project and thesis in the second year of study. The programme is designed to equip a student with the theoretical knowledge, skills and experience requisite for pursuing research and/or an academic career to provide specialized practical knowledge, skills and exposure to state of art technology for a person who wishes to pursue a career in the industry. The course work consists of four core units and two elective units. Upon completion of course work a student is expected to undertake research and subsequently write thesis. MSc. Mechatronic Engineering
The Master of Science in Mechatronic Engineering course is offered in the Department of Mechatronic Engineering. It spans for a period of at least eighteen (18) calendar months. Each candidate shall be required to take nine (9) units in their chosen field. In addition, a thesis shall be submitted as specified in the common regulations in all Faculties for the Master of Science Degree. MSc. Environmental Engineering and Management
The Master of Science program in Environmental Engineering and Management is offered in the Department of Biomechanical and Environmental Engineering. The program prepares motivated students for leadership in environmental engineering practice and management. The program equips students with the fundamentals of environmental engineering and management, and imparts skills to develop solutions for environmental problems, which typically involve a complex blend of technical, regulatory, social, and management challenges. Graduates of this program will be competent in water quality engineering, environmental process and systems modeling, project management and pollution prevention. A strong emphasis is placed on research and practical problem solving in areas of environmental engineering, design, and management. The course takes a period of two(2) years. The first year is devoted to coursework, during which the candidate shall be required totake a minimum of 10 (ten) units. MSc. Soil and Water Engineering
The Master of Science in Soil and Water Engineering is offered in the Department of Biomechanical and Environmental Engineering. The course aims at developing skills and capacity in planning, application and management of technology for utilization and preservation of soil and water resources. A strong emphasis is placed on research and practical problem solving in areas of irrigation, drainage and conservation of environmental resources such as soil and water. The programme shall extend for at least two(2) academic years and will cover course work, examination and thesis. The Master of Science in Agricultural Processing Engineering is offered in the Department of Biomechanical and Processing Engineering. The course aims at developing skills and capacity in planning, application and management of technology for agricultural production and utilization of bio-resources. Ph.D Mechanical Engineering
Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering is offered in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. This is purely a research based program (no course work). The program is undertaken for a period ranging between 24 and 48 months for a full time student. This is designed to further horn research skills and expose the student in their area of interest to make them competent professionals. All facilities are available for use by PhD students.
