Message from the Chairperson

Department of Environmental health and Disease Control which was established in the year 2017 is one of the three departments in the School of Public Health (SoPH) housed under the College of Health Sciences (CoHES). Its establishment was driven by the need to strengthen delivery in training of innovative and creative Public Health and Environmental Health professionals and researchers; in addition to improving community engagement.


To be a department of global excellence in Training, Research and Innovation in Public and Environmental Health for development.


To offer accessible quality training, research and innovation in order to develop Public and Environmental Health professionals with ability to offer quality health care geared towards prevention and promotion of health to suit the needs of a dynamic world.


The goal of the training in B.Sc. Environmental Health is to contribute to the improvement of health of at the community, national and global level through production of graduates who are capable of critical analysis, problem-solving and conducting research in Environmental Health and are adaptable to emerging and re-emerging Environmental Health challenges and enhance sustainable development.


The department has a broad staff and student base, and it offers different programmes in both undergraduate and postgraduate.
