Welcome to JKUAT Department of Private Law,
The Department of Private Law is a strategic component of the University’s innovative and market-based programmes with a vision to transcend new boundaries in the realm of private law.

The Department seeks to promote high quality research and teaching in private law with specific emphasis on the general private law principles of the Kenyan legal system, regional and international law. Amongst the subjects offered by the Department include:

Law students are required to make constructive use of the knowledge and skills they acquire by contributing to national development and the community through legal aid, community service, judicial attachment and similar outreach activities.  Students are also prepared to critically assess, interpret and apply the law and have the historical, comparative and jurisprudential background that is essential for a thorough and critical understanding of law and legal institutions.
