The modern office requires a well-trained and competent individual to man it. He/she must handle matters with tact and efficiency in order to portray a good image of the organization and to meet both the needs of Executives as well as the overall objectives of the organisation. Presently, most offices are manned by secretaries who are not able to adequately perform due to the nature of the existing training which is limited in scope and content. Secondly the available training does not attract the right calsodele of candidates.

The Bachelor of Business and Office Management Degree course is a broad based programme that is intended to provide candidates with the necessary managerial orientation in the business world. It is designed to develop all round Business and Office Managers who have sound knowledge of the activities involved in the business world. These will be from a wide selection of topics in related disciplines which will give candidates excellent business and office management skills, the ability to make sound business decisions.

The degree is intended to provide students with business, ethical and technological skills required by Business and Office Management and at the same time meet the quality requirements of the university. It will be modular in nature and will allow for credit transfer, where necessary, in order to give flexibility to meet the needs of the market.

Target Groups

Secondary school leavers who have attained the minimum qualifications for university admission and who wish to start a career in Business and Office Management. The programme is also open to persons in employment who possess relevant qualifications.

Candidates wishing to study for the Bachelors degree must satisfy the minimum University requirements for admission.


A candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements.

– Be a holder of KCSE (or equivalent examination) certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English/Kiswahili, OR

– Be a holder of KACE certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and a minimum of a credit pass in Mathematics and English/Kiswahili at KCE, OR

– Be a holder of an accredited diploma in Management or Secretarial Studies with a credit pass that is recognized by the University Senate, OR

– Be a holder of any other qualification accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to any of 1, 2 or 3 above.

Diploma holders who are credited for stage I are eligible to join Stage II. Those not wholly credited for Stage I shall be required to take prescribed units for which no credits have been obtained and to sit and pass the prescribed examinations before joining
Stage II.


Continuing Education: two (2) CATs, sit-in end of semester examinations.
